FREEDOM. This 7
letter word has a lot of importance and meaning in itself. Meaning of freedom
is different for everyone. After becoming independent from British rule we
Indians were gifted with freedom of speech and expression, freedom of religion,
rights against exploitation, cultural and education rights, right to
privacy, etc, etc. As an Indian citizen we all are aware of all these rights
and we all exercise them. We are fortunate enough that we have a government
that has been providing all this fundamental rights.
What does freedom
mean to me would be different from anyone else. For me freedom is a state of
mind. I as an individual still do not feel free. I am fortunate enough to be
born in a free society. I have not struggled a lot like others. For me freedom
is being my own self. I still feel I am living in a shell. I am not able to be
me. The only thing that is pulling me back from being myself is the society in
which I live. I am still worried and bothered about what others think of me. What
will others say? I have a fear. Fear of being JUDGED.
“The only real prison is fear, and the only real freedom
is freedom from fear.” —Aung San Suu Kyi. It’s me who has to fight and win against my fear. And the day I will win over my fears I will be free in true sense.
“The
best freedom is being yourself.” Jim Morrison
